Threads Lets More Users Host Live Chats With New Community Tools

Threads is rolling out big changes to its live chat feature, making it easier for people to host and manage group conversations on the app.

The biggest change is who gets to run a live chat. Until now, hosting was limited, but the update lets all community champions create and host chats inside their communities. Champions are the users who help lead and manage Threads communities, similar to moderators on other platforms. This means more people can start their own live conversations around topics they care about, from sports to TV shows to daily discussions.

Hosting a chat is also becoming more of a team effort. Threads now allows up to three co-hosts in a single live chat. This makes it easier to share hosting duties, bring in guest speakers, or manage larger conversations without relying on just one person.

Keeping chats friendly is another focus of the update. Hosts can now long press on any message to delete it instantly. This gives hosts a fast way to remove spam, rude comments, or off topic messages without shutting down the entire chat.

Beyond these core updates, Threads is adding more ways to keep conversations alive. Users will be able to share standout moments from a live chat directly to their main feed as a regular post, helping good discussions reach a wider audience.

Threads is also working on translation support inside live chats, which would help people from different language backgrounds join the same conversation. A pinned messages feature is coming soon as well, allowing hosts to keep important information, like rules or links, visible at the top of the chat.

Live chats can currently support up to 150 active participants, plus a spectator mode for people who just want to watch. Support for live chats on the Threads website is also in the works.
